JESSE R. EVANS

Jesse Russell Evans, 93, of Route 1 died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, in Down East Health and Rehab, Gatesville.

Mr. Evans was born in Bertie County. The son of the late John Wesley and Mrs. Bessie Matthews Evans, he was a retired farmer and a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Eva M. Evans; two daughters, Juliet E. Williams and her husband, M.J., of Winton, Gloria E. Nichols and her husband, Joe Sr., of Ahoskie; three sons, L. Carter Evans and his wife, Hazel, of Suffolk, Clinton M. Evans and his wife, Marie, of Murfreesboro, and E. Ronald Evans and his wife, Nanci, of Siler City, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Margie C. Evans of Franklin, Va.; a sister, Garnett E. Johnson of Eure; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fruzie E. Evans and a son, Jesse R. Evans.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Horace Culpepper. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and other times at the residence. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
