William Henry West Sr., 76, a devoted husband and father, died Nov. 8, 1997, after a brief battle with cancer.
Mr. West was a native of Moyock, N.C., the son of the late Wallace and Anthia Flora West. He was retired from the Ford Motor Co. as a supervisor and was a tax associate with H&R Block for 20 years after his retirement from Ford Motor Co. He was a gradu- ate of Wake Forest University.
Mr. West was a member of Moyock United Methodist Church, Coinjock Masonic Lodge No. 462, Cherokee Chapter No. 14 and the Royal Arch Masons of Elizabeth City. He was a retired Lt. Commander for the U.S. Naval Reserve and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. West is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Creekmore West; a son, William Henry West Jr., and his wife, Kay, of Zebulon, N.C.; a daugh- ter, Mary Gail Collins, and her husband, Jim, of Chesapeake; a sister, Winnie Humphries of Moyock; and five grandchildren, Kristie McGrady of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Billy West of Moyock, Ryan Collins of Shawboro, N.C., Mandy Collins of Chesapeake and Lauren Wilkinson of Raleigh, N.C.; and one great-grandchild, Rachel Collins of Chesapeake.
A graveside service will be conduct- ed at 2 p.m. Monday in Moyock Me- morial Park by the Rev. Mike Gast. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today in Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, Chesapeake. Twiford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
