Mrs. Clara Mason Boswell, 65, of the 3600 block of Rocky Hock Road died Thursday Nov. 6, 1997, in Chowan Hospital.
A native of Hyde County, Mrs. Bos- well was the wife of the late William Elton Boswell Sr. and a daughter of the late Jones Spencer and Melissa Elizabeth Midgette Mason.
Mrs. Boswell was a graduate of East Carolina University with her fo- cus being on Home Economics, Secondary Science and Administration. She taught for 18 years and served as a principal for 13 years both in the Edenton-Chowan School system. She was presently serving as field repre- sentative for Congresswoman Eva M. Clayton, N.C. 1st District.
Mrs. Boswell was well-known in Chowan County and across the state for her active rolls in education, politics and civic activities.
She was active in the Chowan Ruritan Club and served in many capacities with her local members. She served most recently in her district as district governor. A member of the Ballards Bridge Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher and served in many other areas in the church.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 302 where she had been past matron and past district deputy grand matron. She was an active member and past president of the Edenton Chapter of Business and Professional Women's Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Beth Compton and husband, Chris, of Greensboro, N.C., Debra Boswell of Merry Hill, Nancy Mathias and her husband, Richard, of Sarasota, Fla.; her son, Elton Boswell of the Outer Banks; a sister, Margaret M. Spencer of Swan Quarter; two brothers, Alfred Milton Mason of Norfolk, Kenneth Mason of Chesapeake; three grand- children, Lizzie Compton, Clay Compton and Lindsey Mathias.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the Ballards Bridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Wilkerson. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cem- etery. The family received friends at Evans Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and will also receive friends at the residence.
