JACK B. MUMFORD

Jack Beverly Mumford, 63, died Nov. 10, 1997, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late David Mitchell and Sally M. Mumford. Mr. Mumford was a retired special officer for the city of Franklin.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Frances Cutchins Mumford; a son, Philip Andrew Mumford of Richmond; two sisters, Edna Whitley of Chesapeake and Sue Copeland of Windsor; four brothers, George D. ``Jimmy'' Mumford of Salisbury, N.C., David Mumford of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Carl H. Mumford and Alfred S. Mumford, both of Burdette, Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Kenneth Williams and the Rev. William Hawkins. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851 or to the Courtland Rescue Squad, P.O.
