Shelvy Lorice Walker of the 4000 block of Sunkist Road died Nov. 10, 1997, inPortsmouth General Hospital.
A native of Chesapeake, she had retired as a school teacher after 35 years of service with the Norfolk Public School System. Mrs. Walker was an active member of Little Zion Baptist Church where she was president of the Deaconess Board, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the adult choir and the Flower Garden Club. She was also a member of Norfolk Education Association, Virginia Education Association, N.E.A., Virginia State Reading Council and Delta Sigma Theta.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Walker Jr.; a daughter, Tonya Walker of Chesapeake; a son, Thomas Walker III of Mesquite, Texas; a sister, Jean Gregory of Chesapeake; a brother, Douglas Smith of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Melody Martin, Thomas Walker IV, and Langston Walker; a daughter-in-law, Deedra Walker; an uncle, Al Lamb; an aunt, Delilah Tucker; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Ida Smith.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Little Zion Baptist Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Leonard King. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Garden. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
