Charles Drummond Gay, 100, of the 600 block of Rockbridge Road died Nov. 11, 1997, in Suffolk.
Born in Portsmouth, he was the widower of Mary Tom Knott Gay. He had retired as the owner/operator of Gay Cigar & Candy Co. after 34 years. He was a member of Monument United Methodist Church for 68 years and a member of the Portsmouth Naval Masonic Lodge No. 100 since 1920.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances G. Stickles and her husband, Capt. A.L. Stickles II, of Marco Island, Fla.; a son, William T. Gay and his wife, Peggy, of Midlothian, Va.; three grandsons, A. Louis Stickles III of Marco Island, Jeffrey D. Gay of Atlanta, Ga., and Stephen W. Gay and his wife, Suzanne H. Gay, of Centreville, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Kimberley Stickles of Portsmouth and Logan N. Gay of Atlanta.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for a procession to the graveside. Masonic rites will be accorded at the graveside. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
