A little discipline went a long way for the Norview girls volleyball team this year.
The team finished with a 11-7 overall record (10-4 Eastern District) and were knocked from the Eastern Region tournament by Great Bridge 15-10, 15-2 last week at Tallwood High School.
The Pilots finished second in the Eastern District to Churchland. Though no district tournament was held, the top two teams advanced to regionals. The trip was Norview's first and came as a mild surprise considering their 5-10 record last year.
``They rose to my expectations,'' said coach Ellen Browning. ``I was very strict. I pushed them . . . and got more out of them.''
Norview was led by tri-captain Kim Fair, a fourth-year senior who averaged eight kills per game.
The Pilots' other captains, junior middle hitter Khara Willis and outside hitter Melissa Reece also pitched in, along with senior Amarens Van Putten, a transfer from the Netherlands, the team's best server. KEYWORDS: GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
