SHIP VISITS: The destroyer Radford will be open to the public from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Norfolk Naval Station. Visitors should enter through Gate 2. For updated information, call the Tour and Information Center at 444-7637.
NATIVE AMERICAN MONTH: Rabiah Yazzie of Virginia Beach, a member of the Eastern Cherokee Tribe of North Carolina, will speak at an 11:30 a.m. luncheon on Tuesday at the Fort Monroe Club in observance of Native American Heritage Month. The talk is on ``Survival Throughout History'' and will include dance and storytelling. A sign language interpreter will be on hand. Thanksgiving dinner will be served. Tickets are $6. RECYCLE DAY: Pledge support for Recycle Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at Norfolk Naval Station recycling department, across from the Navy Exchange and Commissary. Recyclables will be collected and pledge forms will be available. Pledge cards will be gathered across America, and one will be chosen to win a $200,000 American Green Dream Home.
GW MILESTONE: The 50,000th arrested landing aboard the aircraft carrier George Washington occurred recently. Lt. Paul Bachman of Sea Control Squadron 32, piloting an S-3B Viking, made the landing. It also marked the 50,000th catch by the ship's catapult and arresting gear division without a major mishap, parted arresting gear wire or loss of aircraft.
ARMY/NAVY GAME: The Breezy Point Officers Club at Norfolk Naval Air Station will once again host viewers of the annual Army/Navy football game on Dec. 6, beginning at 11 a.m. The cost is $17.50 per person, and is open to all. Class and company groups are encouraged. Call Dan Lear at 671-8200 to reserve places.
FORRESTAL CEREMONY: A Pearl Harbor Day ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 5, aboard the aircraft carrier Forrestal. The ship is moored at the Navy base in Philadelphia.
COMINGS AND GOINGS
Capt. Evan M. Chanik relieved Capt. Michael D. Malone as commanding officer of the aircraft carrier Enterprise during a ceremony Monday. Chanik has been commanding officer of the fast combat support ship Camden. Malone, selected for promotion to rear admiral, will become deputy director for plans and policy for the U.S. European Command in Stuttgart, Germany.
Cmdr. Dana E. Eberlin has relieved Cmdr. Robert C. Long as chief staff officer of the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station. Long has retired. Eberlin has been chief staff officer in Destroyer Squadron 18. The station is one of three regional commands worldwide that provide communications, information technology and information management support to Navy, Department of Defense and other federal agencies. It covers Iceland to Puerto Rico.
The assault ship Saipan celebrated its 20th anniversary at sea in October. It was the first amphibious assault ship deployed to the Mediterranean Sea, in 1980.
Daniel R. Warman, a partner for nearly 15 years with the law firm of Williams Kelly and Greer, has been promoted to captain with the Naval Reserve. Warman will also be commanding officer of a Naval Reserve unit in Fort Schuyler, N.Y. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
