Pfeiffer's Books, Cards and Fine Wines will have a grand re-opening of at a new location at 606 High St. at 2 p.m. today.
The business is owned by Arden and Pat Pfeiffer, who started it at Prison Square in the 400 block of High. The new location is one of the cornerstones of Historic Olde Towne Square in the 600 block. The building was restored for Regina's restaurant some years ago and later was occupied by the Large Brothers restaurant.
The Pfieffers bought the building from Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority last year. They have remodeled the interior to accommodate their variety of merchandise.
The new location will feature not only books, cards, fine wines and Virginia products from the first location, but it also will house the Sunflower Cafe.
The cafe will serve light food, ice cream, wine and micro beers by the glass. Service will be available inside the building and also in an outdoor courtyard. The city has completed a parking lot on Queen Street behind the buildings in the 600 block. Parking will be free.
Several antique and collectible shops already have opened in the block. Two more buildings now are being renovated and some spaces on the courtyard adjoining Pfeiffer's also are available.
