SUFFOLK

Most city schools have scheduled Community Open Houses for Tuesday as part of American Education Week activities. Call your local school for details.

The Special Education Advisory Committee of Suffolk Public Schools will meet Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. at Lakeland High School. The meeting is open to the public. Questions or concerns about special education in the city can be directed to Wanda Hamilton, coordinator of special education, at 925-5500.

The Superintendent's Open Door Night will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 24, in the School Board office at 524 N. Main St. No appointment is necessary - visitors are seen in the order they arrive. Parents, students, employees and other city residents are invited to bring their questions or concerns. For more information, call JoAnne Miltier at 925-5500.

VIRGINIA BEACH

The School Board will hold a public hearing on the operating budget and Capital Improvement Plan for 1998-99 at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the board meeting room of the School Administration Building, 2512 George Mason Drive. The board's regular meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

STATE

Actor Christopher Reeve, who was treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center in 1995 after a horseback-riding accident that left him paralyzed, will be keynote speaker at U.Va.'s valedictory exercises on May 16, the day before graduation.

Reeve was selected by the student officers of the Class of 1998, the university announced this week.
