William Edward Blackwell of 527 Marcus St. died Nov. 12, 1997, in DePaul Medical Center.
Born in Belhaven, N.C., he had retired as a transportation specialist from Naval Air Reworks Station after 41 years of service. He had also retired as a barber from Frank's Barber Shop after 44 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Basillica of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Marie Blackwell; six daughters, Gladys Adamson of Chesapeake, Veronica Blackwell of Richmond, Brenda Blackwell of Chase City, Charlene Sheppard of Chesapeake, Saundra Ponds of Miami, Fla., and Tammy Evans of Virginia Beach; two sons, William A. Blackwell of Virginia Beach and James O. Blackwell of Fayetteville, N.C.; three sisters, Mary Haskins of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Hazel Coleman of Norfolk and Ollie Gibbs of Florence, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Basillica of St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Monsignor Walter Barrett. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. The family will assemble at 11 a.m. Saturday at the residence for the procession. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
