PUBLICITY HELPED, BUT MANNA COULD STILL USE MORE

Since Albemarle Manna was featured in a USA Today article in mid-October, help has come from many sources - such as United Way, businesses, government employees and college students.

Three efforts that still seek support are:

Wachovia Bank food drive, Friday and Saturday. Take food to either Elizabeth City location, 400 E. Main St. or 1401 W. Ehringhaus. Also, containers for monetary contributions are in both lobbies.

Scouting for Hunger. This weekend, local scouts will deliver plastic bags in which to place food for pickup the weekend of Nov. 21.

Wal-Mart shopping, Saturday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m. to midnight. The Elizabeth City store will donate a percentage of its sales during those hours to Albemarle Manna.

The food bank accepts donations at its office and warehouse at 313 S. Road St.

Albemarle Manna needs canned fruit juice, 100 percent fruit juice, powdered milk, soup, spaghetti sauce, pasta, potted meats, tuna, toilet paper and bar soap. It has a plentiful supply of rice, dry beans and peanut butter. It also accepts processed game meat, such as venison, or dressed carcasses from hunters.

For more information about Albemarle Manna, or to volunteer, call 335-4035.
