John James Balasco, 80, of McKann Avenue, a retired restaurateur, died Nov. 12, 1997, in his home.
Mr. Balasco was born in Tarpon Spring, Fla., and was the son of the late James and Helen F. Balasco and was preceded in death by his sister, Areta B. Kotarides. He was the widower of Ruby N. Balasco. He was a member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk. Mr. Balasco was a member of Knights of Pythias, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his son, David John Balasco; his sister, Mary H. Balasco; his grandson, Brian Balasco; two nephews, Christopher Kotarides and his wife, Doris, George Kotarides and his wife, Georgia; and a number of great-nephews and great-nieces; two sisters-in-law, Florence Crawford of Richmond and Dorothy Chauncey of Colorado.
A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral by Fr. Constantine Rogakos. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. A Trisagion service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel.
