DANIEL CARTER SR.

Daniel Carter Sr., 74, of the 1600 block of Stratford St., was called Home toGlory. He died Nov. 13, 1997, in his residence.

Born Oct. 5, 1923, he served in the Army and Navy and retired from the Air Force, serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Mr. Carter also retired from Thomas Nelson College after 14 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Brown, whom he married April 21, 1946. From this union the couple was blessed with three daughters and their husbands, Juanita Carter Sharpe, Cheryl Carter and Frederick Palmer, Sharon Carter and Dexter Batten, all of Portsmouth; three sons and their wives, Daniel and Marilyn Carter Jr. of Virginia Beach, Gregory and Mildred Carter of Portsmouth, Robert Carter of Portsmouth. Survivors also include his mother, Hattie Carter; a sister, Rebecca Gatling; three brothers, Joseph Carter, James Carter, Samuel Carter; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Third Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe B. Fleming. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends at the residence. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
