ROY W. WOOD

Roy Wright Wood, 89, of the 300 block of Ewell Lane, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, in Halifax Community Hospital, South Boston, Va.

Mr. Wood was the son of the late Alva Fletcher and Berta Wright Wood. He was also predeceased by a sister, Adabelle W. Black. Mr. Wood was a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Virginia Beach and Great Bridge, Chesapeake. He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Selma Kirkland Wood; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Patricia Kirkland Blakely and David Dewey Blakely of Clarksville, Va.; grandchildren, Susan Blakely Smith and husband, Stephen, of Cary, N.C., John Edward Blakely and wife, Nadine, of Lynchburg, Va., Rebecca Blakely Schrinel and husband, Michael, of Richmond, and Robert Carlton Blakely and wife, Donna, of Greensboro, N.C.; sisters, Hazel W. Hearring of Chesapeake and Evelyn W. Shanahan of Houston, Texas; nieces, Beverly B. Wooddell of Virginia Beach and Joan Grigsby of Fort Worth, Texas; nephews, Carroll Hearring of Washington, N.C., John Shanahan of Hackensack, N.J., and James Shanahan of Houston; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home by the Rev. David Shelton. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Wood will receive friends at her home on Ewell Lane. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
