NORFOLK HOUSE FIRE BLAMED ON CHILDREN PLAYING WITH MATCHES

Children playing with matches were blamed for a fire Monday night that damaged a home in the Oakdale Farms section of the city.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in the 500 block of Dixie Drive about 7:30 p.m., according to Jack Goldhorn, spokesman for Norfolk Fire and Paramedical Services. They found heavy fire coming from one side of the one-story building, he said.

Firefighters worked about 10 minutes to get control of the fire, which is estimated to have caused about $18,000 in damage. One adult and four children were in the house. Everyone escaped without injury.

Two adults and three children were displaced as a result of the fire. They were staying with family members Monday night, Goldhorn said. KEYWORDS: FIRE
