VARIETY OF FISH LANDED ALONG PIERS

Piers along the northern beaches reported scattered fish landed Tuesday.

Four big blues and one keeper flounder were landed on Kitty Hawk Pier during the day.

Avalon Pier reported very little action throughout the day.

A 14-pound bluefish was taken on cut bait from the end of Nags Head Pier. Scattered dogfish, skates and a keeper speckled trout also were landed.

Fishing was slow on Jennette's Pier, with a few dogfish taken.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught skates, dogfish, ling cod and several very small spot, croaker, bluefish and sea mullet.

At South Oregon Inlet, anglers on Rodanthe Pier landed one keeper puppy drum and threw back several small fish.

Quite a few speckled trout were landed from Avon Pier between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. A few sea mullet and bluefish also were taken.

Frisco Pier reported slow fishing all day.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches was fairly good. Scattered bluefish and an occasional striper were beached. Speckled trout were landed at a number of locations from deeper sloughs.

A few stripers were taken in the surf at Oregon Inlet.

Speckled trout also were landedsporadically by surfcasters from Oregon Inlet to Buxton. Some big bluefish were taken in the surf on the north end of Pea Island.

Surf fishermen at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse caught speckled trout. Small bluefish were landed at Cape Point.

Little action was reported along the beach from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Charters around Oregon Inlet caught a few stripers on the bar during the morning, and big bluefish outside the inlet in the afternoon.

Blue-water action was good off Oregon Inlet, with limits of tuna taken, including some 60-pounders.

Off Hatteras, scattered king mackerel were landed from behind the wrecks, and stripers were caught near the shoals.

The water temperature was 54 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 59 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
