JAMES F. SMITH

James F. Smith, 68, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997.

He was a native of East Lansing, Mich. A veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars, he served in the Navy for 22 years. Mr. Smith loved the Navy and was so proud of the uniform he wore. He earned many medals, including ones for bravery. For 15 years, he was employed as a technical engineer for the Naval Sea Support Center, which earned him many outstanding commendations for work performed at various military bases. Mr. Smith was an avid golfer. He was the son of the late Lisle A. and Stella Marie McCabe Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Helen P. Smith; a daughter, Kathleen (Erby) Turner-Strickland; a son, James K. (Susan) Smith; a grandson, Douglas James Turner; a sister, Josephine Reisser; and an uncle, Kenneth Smith.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, Jacksonville, by Fr. Michael Larkin. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
