VIRGINIA BEACH - Salem football coach Bill McTyre announced his resignation Thursday, two weeks after finishing his sixth and worst season. The Sun Devils were undermined by injuries to several key players and finished the year 3-7.
``It seems like I had my shot and I've lost the passion,'' McTyre said. ``When I started this job, I had a 6-month-old, and now I have three children under 6. It's time to spend a little more time at home.''
McTyre's record in six seasons was 27-33. His best season was 1995, when the Sun Devils went 6-4, the only winning record in school history.
``The Salem community could not have asked for a better role model to lead young people,'' Salem athletic director Mark Harrison said.
Applications for the head football coaching position should be sent to Harrison by Dec. 15. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
