JAMES V. BARNETT JR.

James V. Barnett Jr., 74, of the 2400 block of River Oaks Drive died Nov. 20, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.

A native of South Carolina, he retired from the the civil service and also from the U.S. Navy after 20 years. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Barnett was a member of Taylor Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include his former wife, Mary M. Barnett of Portsmouth; three sisters, Frances Smith of Greer, S.C., Marcelle Few of Greenville, S.C., and Emma Kavounis of Potomac, Md.; a brother, retired U.S. Navy Capt. Charles Barnett of Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Wood Mortuary, Greer. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Greer. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
