SPECIAL RECIPE NEEDED FOR DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE

READER REQUESTS this week range from soup to cakes. Since we revived the column, every recipe has brought a response, including a couple this week offering advice on how to make the best cabbage rolls.

Here are this week's requests:

Harriet Chaney of Southern Shores, N.C., is looking for a devil's food cake recipe that is made with cocoa powder and Miracle Whip. She thinks it originally came from a cookbook for boaters.

Dorothy Kanter of Norfolk wants two recipes, one for Manhattan clam chowder and another for a macaroni and beef one-skillet meal.

Trudy Weatherington of Chesapeake needs a recipe for garlic-flavored marinated mushrooms.

Harriett K. Leach is looking for suggestions for using egg yolks that she ends up with when doing her Christmas baking.

A.G. Shore of Norfolk wants to replace a lost recipe for chip and cherry cake.

If you need a recipe or have a request, write: Reader Recipes, Flavor Section, The Virginian-Pilot, 150 W. Brambleton Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23510.
