RUTH C. GRIZZARD

Ruth Corinne Cleek Grizzard, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Courtland Health Care Center, Courtland, Va.

Born in Bath County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Simpson Cleek. Her husband was the late Dr. Joshua Jack Grizzard Jr. She was active in many community and civic organizations. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Boykins United Methodist Church. She also served as a guest Sunday school teacher for many Southampton County churches through the years.

Mrs. Grizzard is survived by a daughter, Gwen Grizzard Vick, and her husband, Peter, of Courtland; two sons, Jack Cleek Grizzard Sr., and his wife, Betty, of Woodbridge, Richard Crawford Grizzard Sr., and his wife, Sarah, of Boykins; seven grandchildren, Richard Byron Smith, Catherine Smith Jackson, Jack Cleek Grizzard Jr., Revonda Grizzard Montoya, Richard Crawford Grizzard Jr., Brian Keith Grizzard, Jeffrey Rock Grizzard; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, by the Rev. John Davenport, the Rev. Derek Koolman and Dick Jackson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins. Memorial donations may be made to Courtland or Boykins Rescue Squad. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
