RUTH H. BARNES

Ruth Henrietta Barnes, 71, of the 2200 block of Washington St., died Sunday Nov. 23, 1997, at her residence.

Born Aug. 7, 1926, in Canebrake, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Homer P. Linkous Sr. and Ocie Christian Linkous. She was a homemaker and a former fourth grade school teacher in Squire, W.Va. She was a member of the Edgemont Baptist Church, where she was very active in the children's church program and was a Sunday school teacher. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glen M. Fraley; a son; and a brother, Homer P. Linkous Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Garnet Cecil Barnes; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard (Connie) Barnes Cannon of Virginia Beach; a sister, Faye Almeda Adams of Mount Clemmons, Mich.; brothers, Max C. Linkous of Cedar Bluff, Va., C.B. Linkous of Bristol, Va.; stepgrandchildren, Rick Cannon and his wife, Donna of Virginia Beach, Amber Mathis Cannon of Virginia Beach; stepgreat-grandchildren, Noah Cannon, Brandon Mathis, both of Virginia Beach; and a stepsister, Helen Fraley of Bluefield.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mercer Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert C. Wilson. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Grandview Memory Gardens Cemetery, Bluefield. Friends may call today at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions, if desired, to Edgemont Baptist Church, 2507 Jefferson Drive, Bluefield, W.Va. 24701.
