CLIFTON R. BARKLEY

Clifton R. Barkley, 77, of the 500 block of Amster Lane, died Nov. 24, 1997.

Born in Portsmouth, he retired as an operating engineer and also as a bridge tender for the City of Chesapeake. He was a former Mason, member of the Local Union No. 147, Disabled American Veterans, Cradock Chapter No. 41, Tidewater and National Harley Owners Group and Ex-retread. Mr. Barkley was an Army veteran of World War II and recipient a Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife, Annabel L. Barkley; three daughters, Betty D. Chambers, Elaine R. Wade, R. Linda Whitehead, all of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren, Denise Chambers, Jennifer Flanagan, Tami Kello, Rene Bridges, Diane Butler, April Harris and Brian Wade; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Ruth Chambers, and a grandson, Michael Chambers.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
