Ben Rough of Virginia Beach was a triple winner in two Hampton Roads striped bass tournaments over the weekend, pocketing $1,350.
He won the $1,000 top award in the inaugural Lynnhaven Marine Center Bayliner Rockfish Tournament with four fish totaling 89 pounds, 1 ounce. In addition, Rough earned $100 for the two-day contest's heaviest entry at 29-5.
Rough also took the $250 top award in a Sunday contest staged by the Tidewater Anglers Club of Norfolk. His fish's official weight was 29.10 pounds.
Elsewhere, Tom McCormick of Portsmouth earned three citation awards from the Virginia Fresh Water Fishing Program with catches at Lake Prince in Suffolk.
McCormick scored with an 8-5 largemouth bass, 4-2 chain pickerel and 1-4 yellow perch.
Dr. James C. Wright of Virginia Beach moved into a tie with Carolyn Brown, also from the Beach, in the race to become Angler of the Year in the Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament. Each has citation-winning catches for 15 species. Wright added to his list in the past week with a 16-8 bluefish caught from the boat Therapy and a 10-0 tautog caught from the boat Cape Hatteras.
Elsewhere, John G. Wood of Edenton, N.C., released the first giant tuna of the season off Hatteras, a lunker estimated at 350 pounds. He was aboard the charter boat Chaser, skippered by Jim Loebsack.
Wood also scored on the trip with a 65-pound king mackerel, largest reported in North Carolina this season.

Speckled trout: Allan Drewry, Chesapeake, 8-14, 6-12, no name; Mike Firestone, Virginia Beach, 8-5, Captain's Choice; Scott Cole, Virginia Beach, 7-4, Lectric Fisherman; and Allan Fidils, Chesapeake, 6-0, no name.
