SHOPPING NEWS AND NOTES

Buy a bear, help out

Children's Hospital

Life Savings Bank branches are selling stuffed bears during this holiday season to benefit Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.

The hospital's mascot, Healthy Bear, is available in brown, tan or white for $10, and Life Savings says all proceeds will go to the hospital. For more information or branch locations, call 858-1000.

Target store aims at

helping seniors, disabled

The Target discount store at 1245 N. Military Hwy. will set aside special shopping hours exclusively for senior citizens and people with disabilities from

8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Target staff members will help provide personal shopping assistance and free gift wrapping, and there will be entertainment, refreshments and pictures with Santa.

Flat is where it's at,

including a flashlight

The Lumatec Flashcard is billed as the world's first flat flashlight, and it's hard to imagine any light being flatter or smaller. It's about the size of a credit card - a little wider and slightly thicker - and weighs less than an ounce.

Nevertheless, the Flashcard produces a beam powerful enough for emergency use. The card is designed to give short bursts of light, and its battery will last up to five years. The Flashcard is also waterproof and dive tested to 125 feet.

The flashlight sells for $7 to $8. It is available in retail outlets, but you also can mail-order by calling 1-800-586-2832.

Gift idea: calendars

with your own photos

Calendars are always a popular holiday gift, and there are plenty from which to choose. Another option: a personalized calendar, available at Kinko stores.

The personalized color calendars range from $4.95 to $29.95, depending on whether you want a year's calendar with one photo or a flip-calendar with 12 photos. Either way, you drop off your photo or photos at a Kinko's and pick up your calendar three or four days later.
