LESTER E. WALKER JR.

Lester E. Walker Jr., 62, of the 5900 block of Beechwalk Drive passed away peacefully Nov. 23, 1997, in his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a native of Skowhegan, Maine, where he graduated from high school. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Mr. Walker was a veteran of the Korean War and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After his discharge, he attended Boston University to study engineering. His career took him from the electric boat division of General Dynamics in Groton, Conn., to Litton Shipbuilding in California and on to Florida. Fifteen years ago, he made his home in Virginia Beach with his wife, Margret.

Over the past years, Mr. Walker worked for several construction contractors in the Tidewater area. He retired from Woodbury Construction Co., Chesapeake, in May 1997.

In addition to his wife, Margret, survivors include his mother, Florence; son, Craig; grandchildren, Brock and Lee of Williamsburg; his brother, Robert S. Walker of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Mona Aeillo of Peoria, Ill., Ruth Jones of Weare, N.H., and Eleanor Wentworth of La Quinta, Calif.; and a host of relatives and friends.

At Mr. Walker's request his body was donated for scientific study, teaching and research. His ashes will find their final resting place in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, Maine.

In celebration of his life the family will receive friends at the home of Robert and Barbara Walker, 1800 Broad Bay Circle, Virginia Beach, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3. The Rev. John Ashenfelder will preside.
