WILLIAM E. REED

William Edward ``Bill'' Reed, 74, devoted husband, father and grandfather, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, in Riverside Regional Medical Center.

A Norfolk native and lifetime area resident, Mr. Reed retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk in 1975 as an aircraft motor mechanic with 20 years of service. He then worked with P.R.C. for 10 years.

Throughout his life Bill was a devoted family man, active in Norview Presbyterian Church as a deacon and elder. He was a member of South Norfolk Moose Lodge No. 39, a former scoutmaster of BSA Troop 47, an Army vetaran of World War II and a life member of DAV.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Towell Reed; three daughters, Janice Thurman of Newport News, Barbara Anderson and husband, Steve, of Longwood, Fla., and Margaret Oates and husband, Anthony, of Greenwood, Miss.; a son, William Michael Reed and wife, Melanie Greene, of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Norview Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Vernon Murray of Norview Presbyterian Church and the Rev. Augusta Vanderbilt of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the services.
