ANSON R. HYDE

Dr. Anson R. Hyde of Pintail Crescent died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997.

He was born in Washington, D.C., and graduated from St. Albans School in 1934. Dr. Hyde attended Haverford College and George Washington University Medical School, graduating in 1942. He joined the Army and served overseas with the 29th Infantry Division, taking part in the D-Day landings on Omaha Beach. After the war, Dr. Hyde completed his medical training and practiced general surgery in Washington, D.C. He was a director and later, president, of Doctors Hospital. In 1956, he was a founding member of Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital, later becoming president of the board. Dr. Hyde was the son of the late Charles Wilbur Hyde, M.D., and the late Mrs. Corinna Roberts Hyde. In 1968, Dr. Hyde married Anna Mae Swauger and they lived in Alexandria, Va. until his retirement in 1983, after which they moved to Virginia Beach.

Besides his wife, Dr. Hyde is survived by five children from a former marriage, Susan Sarfaty of Virginia Beach, Charles W. Hyde of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Cynthia Fawsett of Virginia Beach, Douglas R. Hyde of Springfield, Va., and JoAnn Massino of Tracy's Landing, Md.; a sister, Ann Schoen of North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Sandbridge Community Chapel by the Rev. Stephen D. Hay. Entombment, with military honors, will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Sandbridge Community Chapel or the Sandbridge Volunteer Rescue Squad. Cremation Society of Virginia, Tidewater Office, is in charge of arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
