MARY E. STEWART

Evangelist Mary E. Stewart, 77, of the 1800 block of Atlanta Ave. died Nov. 24, 1997, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

Born in Smithfield, N.C., she was a former private duty nurses aide and the widow of George Stewart. She was a former member of Washington Temple Church of God in Christ, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Garden of Prayer Temple Church of God in Christ, Portsmouth. She was a licensed evangelist of the Church of God in Christ. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lillie Everette.

Survivors include two sons, Alvin L. Stewart and Dennis K. Stewart, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Lillian Bynum of Portsmouth; six grandchildren; an uncle, Joseph Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. E.T. Knight. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at 5 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at noon Friday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
