PORTSMOUTH

STRUTTON NAMED DIRECTOR OF FOUNDATION: The Hoffler Creek Wildlife Foundation named Miranda ``Randi'' Strutton as its first executive director. Strutton, a former teacher, was instrumental in forming the foundation two years ago in a citizens initiative to save wildlife habitat in the Churchland section of the city from residential development.

LUCAS NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SHARED HOSPITAL SERVICES: The board of directors of Shared Hospital Services named Richard J. Lucas as executive director of the facility. He replaces D. James Paradee, who plans to retire at the end of the year. Shared Hospital Services provides laundry and linen service to nine area hospitals and one extended-care facility.

SUFFOLK

DOWNING OPENS PRACTICE: Frank A. Downing Jr. has opened Downing Chiropractic Center at 711 W. Washington St. He was with Norfolk Chiropractic. He is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

HAMPTON ROADS

AGENCY RECEIVES GRANT: Family Services of Tidewater received a $200,000 grant for Healthy Families of South Hampton Roads from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Maternal and Child Health Bureau to ``develop a community-based comprehensive system of services to assure culturally competent coordinated care for all children and their families.''
