PORTSMOUTH, SUFFOLK SIGN GOLF COURSE DEAL

In a tent on the grounds of the Suffolk Golf Course, Portsmouth and Suffolk city councils met Tuesday to sign an agreement that will allow both cities to earn revenue while improving their recreational facilities.

Under the agreement, the Suffolk Golf Course, owned by Portsmouth, but located minutes away from Suffolk's downtown, will be leased to Suffolk for another ten years, beginning Jan. 1. The two cities will also work together to build a new golf course in Suffolk.

Suffolk will lease the golf course for $1.8 million in rent over a 10-year period and make $1.2 million in improvements to the course.

To pay for leasing the golf course, Suffolk will sublet the facility to Suffolk Golf Recreational and Charitable Association for $400,000 more than the Portsmouth rent. The golf association has also agreed to pay for the course's improvements.
