PIER ACTION ALONG THE NORTHERN BEACHES WAS

Pier action along the northern beaches was fairly slow Tuesday.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported a few small striped bass taken. Several flounder were landed throughout the day on Avalon and Nags Head Piers.

Scattered bluefish were caught from Jennette's Pier during the morning, but little action was in the afternoon.

Anglers on Outer Banks Pier landed one jumbo bluefish and lost two. Several small flounder also were taken.

On Hatteras Island, fishermen on Rodanthe Pier caught a few small bluefish off and on during the day.

A 60-pound drum was landed on Avon Pier during the morningand small blues were caught sporadically throughout the afternoon.

Speckled trout fishing was good early Tuesday morning on Frisco Pier. Keeper flounder and puppy drum were landed in the afternoon.

Stripers and big bluefish were beached by surf fishermen in the south Nags Head area and around Oregon Inlet. Fishing was slow along the beach from Oregon Inlet to Salvo.

A few speckled trout were taken near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and along the south beaches Tuesday. A big drum and scattered stripers were landed at Cape Point.

Some speckled trout were hauled in by surfcasters north of Frisco Pier early Tuesday. Small bluefish and small trout were landed in the surf around Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was good, with bluefish and striped bass taken.

Little offshore action was reported in the Gulf Stream off Hatteras and Oregon Inlet.

The water temperature was 51 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 57 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
