TONIGHT

THE COOL, ramshackle, rap-meets-blues sound of G. Love and Special Sauce's 1994 debut moved more than a quarter million copies in the United States alone. Love & Special Sauce, Limp Bizkit, Dandy Warhols, Space Monkeys, Longpigs and Blink 182. 7:30 tonight, The Boathouse, Norfolk. $9.96. 671-8100.

MOVIES

Into the holiday mix come a couple flicks that opened Wednesday, and two new entries:

ALIEN RESURRECTION - It only looked like Ripley, the buffed-female warrior supreme, died a fiery death in ``Alien 3.'' Nothing that DNA, cloning and a script doctor can't cure. Sigourney Weaver returns, but is she still human or has she gone over to the alien side? Tiny little Winona Ryder is a visitor from a smuggler ship who adds vulnerability, and perhaps more, to the mix. French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet goes for dark visual styling in the latest in this messy franchise. The chest buster is still there. Opened Wednesday. R

FLUBBER - Can even Robin Williams compete with the green stuff that defies gravity? Fred MacMurray played the role, an absent-minded professor, in the 1961 version. And, yes, a repeat of the famous basketball game (when the home team has gravity-defying jumps thanks to flubber, is still there. Marcia Gay Harden, a veteran of Virginia Stage Company, has the thankless role of Williams' fiancee - the one he often forgets to marry. Are technical improvements in special effects enough to warrant the remake of a family classic? Opened Wednesday. PG

YEAR OF THE HORSE - Jim Jarmusch directs a documentary about rock star Neil Young, the so-called king of grunge. There is concert footage of Young with his band, Crazy Horse. R

ALIVE AND KICKING - Jason Fleming, British matinee idol, stars as a modern dancer who is pursued by an older man and they emerge as an odd couple. The dialogue has been praised for bitter, sharp style, including a memorable scene with the two argue over who doesn't love whom more. Starting Thursday at the Naro. R ILLUSTRATION: Color photos
