After a week's delay, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, along with Japan's National Space Development Agency, successfully launched the joint Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission satellite from Tanegashima, Japan, Thursday at 4:27 EST.
The satellite, which includes a cloud-observation experiment developed by scientists at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, is designed to monitor tropical rainfall and the associated release of energy that effects global weather patterns - including the periodic weather anomaly known as El Nino.
