Alice G. Pyle of the 900 block of Bobolink Drive died peacefully in her home on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 27, 1997. She was supported day and night for the past year by her husband of 40 years, Roger G. Pyle, and her daughter and son and their families.
Mrs. Pyle was born in Chase City, Va. She graduated from Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing at the age of 20. She was a registered nurse specializing in obstetrics and gynecology and worked in many locations around the world during her 20 years as a Naval officer's wife. She obtained her real estate license in 1975 and enjoyed success early in that career. Mrs. Pyle received recognition as a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club in her first full year in the business and qualified every year thereafter. She received many other sales achievement awards including, most notably, Tidewater Builders' Association Sales Person of the Year and the Tidewater Association of Realtors' Platinum Award for sales achievement. In 1982 she co-founded Pyle Realty Inc. Mrs. Pyle has served as past director of the Tidewater Association of Realtors and held membership in the following committees: Professional Standards, Grievance, Broker-Lawyer, Strategic Planning and was a National Association of Realtors Certified Ethics instructor. She was also active as a volunteer nurse at the Virginia Beach Health Clinic, a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Virginia Beach General Hospital, a member of the Republican Women's Club, a member of the Birdneck Point Civic League and Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Rodger G. Pyle; a daughter, Dr. Pamela G. Pyle and her husband, Dr. Daniel Unger; a son, Allen L. Pyle and his wife, Diane Pyle; grandchildren, Daniel Zachary Unger, Nathan Andrew Pyle and Catherine Grace Pyle, all of Virginia Beach; a brother, Carlton Gurley and a sister, Louise Mitchell, both of Chase City.
She will be missed by the many friends whose lives she touched and who have been so supportive to her and her family throughout this past year.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, by Dr. J. Scottie Griffin. Interment will be at Princess Anne Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Monday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel.
