TUNA, BLUES AND STRIPERS OCCUPY ANGLERS' LINES ON FRIDAY

Yellowfin tuna action was excellent Friday off Oregon Inlet near the Point. Limits of 20- to 50-pounders were landed by most charters.

Plenty of blues and some stripers were taken by charters trolling the bar off Oregon Inlet and along the beach north of the inlet. Action was best during the afternoon.

Lots of stripers and blues were landed by boaters fishing the shoals off Hatteras. King mackerel fishing also was fairly good in the Hatteras area.

Pier fishing action along the northern beaches was mixed Friday.

Some one- to two-pound croaker and small bluefish were landed on Kitty Hawk Pier during the morning. Big blues were caught between 10 a.m. and noon, and croaker were landed again later in the day.

Avalon Pier reported ling cod caught off and on during the morning. Some big bluefish were taken during the early afternoon from the end of the pier, but the action was broken up by boaters trolling in the area.

Little action was reported throughout the day from Nags Head, Jennette's or Outer Banks piers.

South of Oregon Inlet, anglers on Rodanthe Pier caught a few small blues.

After a slow morning, Avon Pier reported that a few speckled trout were decked in the afternoon.

Speckled trout fishing was good on the end of Frisco Pier, with quite a few two- to three-pounders landed on jiggers.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches slowed considerably, with only a few scattered striped bass and bluefish landed.

Fishing was a bit slow along the beach from Oregon Inlet to Salvo, with small bluefish taken.

Scattered bluefish and stripers were beached in the surf from Ramps 34 to 43. A few stripers were landed at Cape Point, and some speckled trout were caught in the hook, on Mirrolures and grubs.

Small bluefish, a few keeper flounder and a handful of albacore were landed from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

The water temperature was 55 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 61 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
