THEATERS PICKETED: The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts wants people to boycott Regal Cinemas, which has more than 2,000 screens at nearly 300 locations, including several in Hampton Roads. The union said the company plans to cut wages and lay off workers next year.

DOUGHTIE'S SPLITS STOCK: The board of directors of Portsmouth-based Doughtie's Foods Inc. has declared a 50 percent stock split, with cash in lieu of fractional shares. In addition, a dividend of 4 cents per share held prior to the split was announced. Both the dividend and shares of stock are payable on Jan. 12 to shareholders of record at the close of business on Dec. 12. Doughtie's stock was at $8.625 Friday.

REYNOLDS SELLS ANOTHER UNIT: Reynolds Metals Co., Richmond, agreed to sell its European rolling mill businesses to VAW Aluminum AG, a unit of Viag AG of Germany, as the second-largest U.S. aluminum producer continues to shed assets and trim costs. Terms weren't disclosed.
