The following list of names includes those rhododendrons and azaleas registered by the Royal Horticultural Society, through the American Rhododendron Society, during the period November 1, 1987 to February 15, 1989. All but a few are North American selections. The exceptions are clones registered by an ARS member who lives in Denmark. The RHS, which serves as International Registration Authority for the genus Rhododendron , makes all final decisions concerning registration procedures, acceptance of clonal names, and use of species names.
Most of the color designations refer to the RHS Colour Chart (1966, 1986 editions); accompanying descriptions are those published in A Contribution toward Standardization of Color Names in Horticulture , R D Huse and K L Kelly, edited by D H Voss (ARS, 1984). Occasionally, colors refer to the Horticultural Colour Chart (HCC) and its descriptions.
Parents of the plant are listed in the following order: (seed parent x pollen parent). The terms glabrous and hairless have been used interchangeably, as have the terms bullate and wrinkled. The term indumentum refers to all hair types found on leaves, including scales and glands.
Unacceptable names used prior to registration are listed independently as synonyms. Growers of these clones are encouraged to change plant labels to agree with the registered name.
Species names are based on the RHS's horticulturally modified version of the Cullen and Chamberlain revision of the Balfourian Series classification system. Equivalent former and present names are listed in An Alphabetical Checklist of Rhododendron Species (RHS, 1981), and in the table in the front of The Rhododendron Handbook (RHS, 1980). Name changes which apply to the current Registry entries are shown on the accompanying chart.
All growers of rhododendrons and azaleas are urged to submit names to the ARS Registrar before use, and certainly before publication. This is one way to assure that names meet the requirements of the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants 1980 and do not duplicate names already in use.

'ADVENT':  Elepidote. ('Grierosplendour' x 'Millard Kepner'). Cross (1975), raised, named, introduced, and registered by Max E Byrkit, Williamsport, MD. Flowers up to 14/truss, heavy substance, openly funnel-shaped, 3" across x 1" long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; deep purplish pink (68A) with large area of red dorsal spotting. Calyx minute. Ball truss, 7" wide x 7" high. Leaves held 3 years, 5" x 3", elliptic, slightly convex, cuspidate, cuneate. Spreading, dense growth habit, very floriferous, plant 5' high x 6' wide in 10 years from seed. Blooms mid to late May. Plant hardy to at least -18°F; buds, -5°F.

'ALBULA':  Elepidote. ('Ice Cube' x yakushimanum , Exbury form). Cross (1969), raised, named, introduced, and registered by Dr J Brueckner, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Flowers 17-21/truss, heavy substance, funnel-shaped, 2" across x 1" long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; light pink buds open white with faint yellow spotting on dorsal lobe. Calyx ⅛", green. Ball truss, 6" to 7" wide x 6" high. Leaves held 4 to 5 years, 4" to 6" x 1" to 2", obovate, flat, mucronate, cuneate; glabrous and slightly glaucous above, with thin grey-white hairy covering below which ages to tan and may be rubbed off. Spreading, dense growth habit, free-flowering, plant 4' high x 7' wide in 19 years from seed. Blooms late May/early June. Plant and bud hardy to at least -25°F.

'ALFRED MARTIN':  Lepidote. ( edgeworthii x 'Else Frye'). Cross (1968) and raised by Dr John P Evans; named, introduced, and registered by Fleurette (Mrs J P) Evans, Oakland, CA. Flowers moderately fragrant, openly funnel-shaped, 4" across x 2" long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; deep yellowish pink (47C) buds opening light to pale purplish pink (55C,D) with lighter pink to white edging of irregular width, and brilliant yellow (12C) dorsal blotch with scattered brown spots; reverse has deep to strong purplish pink (55A,B) ray on each petal. Calyx ", deep pink (48B). Ball truss of 5 flowers, 5" to 6" wide x 4" high. Leaves held 3-4 years, 3" to 3" x 1⅜" to 1", broadly elliptic to elliptic, flat, slightly wavy margins, apiculate, cuneate; upper surface dull, hairy, bullate; underside with thin to medium tan indumentum and white scales. Upright and broad habit, well-branched, free-flowering, plant 5' high x 5' wide in 10 years from seed. Blooms early March. Hardy to at least 32°F.

'ALOHA':  Elepidote. ('Vulcan' x yakushimanum , Exbury form). Cross (1973) by Carl H Phetteplace, Leaburg, OR; ARS seed lot 1974-563; raised, named, and registered by Donald W Paden, Urbana, IL; introduced by Briggs Nursery, Olympia, WA. Flowers openly funnel-shaped, 2" across x 1" long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; vivid red (52A) buds open deep pink (52C), fading to pale purplish pink (56D). No calyx. As many as 19 flowers/dome truss, 5" wide x 4" high. Leaves held 3 years, 2" to 3" x " to 1", elliptic, convex, acute, cuneate, bullate and dull above, with thinly plastered moderate orange yellow (164C) indumentum below (white when young). Dense rounded habit, plant approximately 3' high in 10 years from cutting. Blooms late April/early May. Plant hardy to at least -15°F; buds, -10°F.

'ALONY':  Elepidote. ('Furnivall's Daughter' x 'Fabia'). Cross (1974), raised, named, introduced, and registered by Thorvall Aunsbjorn, Randers, Denmark. Flowers 10/truss, saucer-shaped, 4" across x 1-3/16" long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; vivid reddish orange (33A). No calyx. Flat truss, 6" wide x 4⅛" high. Leaves 4" x 2" to 2⅜", oblong, with grayish felt-like coating below, aging to grayish brown. Dense growth habit, free-flowering, plant 2⅓' high x 1' wide in 9 years from seed. Blooms late May/early June. Plant and bud hardy to at least -4°F.

'AMANDA JOAN YOUNG':  Elepidote. ('Vulcan' x unnamed Dexter hybrid, parentage unknown). Cross (1976), raised, named, introduced, and registered by Allan T and Shirley A Anderson, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Flowers 7-9/truss, slightly fragrant, openly funnel-shaped, 3" across x 2" long, with 6 wavy-edged lobes; deep purplish pink (55A) margins shading to pale purplish pink (55D) in center; very pale purple (69A/D) throat; dorsal spotting varying from strong orange yellow (163B) to moderate yellow (163C) and brilliant yellow (15C). Calyx ⅛", green. Ball truss, 6" wide x 5" high. Leaves 4" x 1", obovate, acute, rounded, hairless. Spreading habit, free-flowering, plant 2' high x 3' wide in 11 years from seed. Blooms early May. Plant and bud hardy to at least -15°F.

'ANDREW PATON':  Elepidote. ('Scintillation' x calophytum , pink form selected by Dr Carl Phetteplace). Cross (1972) by Robert Furman, Garden City, NY (now Brewster, MA); ARS Seed Exchange lot 73-522; raised, named, introduced, and registered by Dorothy G Swift, Saunderstown, RI. Flowers average 20/truss, heavy substance, widely funnel-campanulate, 3" across x 1⅜" long, with prominent stigma and 5 smooth-edged lobes; white with deep red (53A) spotting, c 1" long, on dorsal and two adjacent lobes; spots merge to form central blotch c ⅜" long. In cold, cloudy spring, flowers may open pale pink before fading to white. Calyx minute. Flat to globular truss, 8" wide x 5" high. Leaves held 2 years, 4" to 9" x 1" to 3", oblanceolate, convex, apiculate, mature, 3' high x 4' wide in 14 years from seed. Blooms late April. Plant hardy to at least -12°F; buds, -5°F.

'ANGELIQUE':  Elepidote. ('Vulcan' x yakushimanum , Exbury form). Cross (1980), raised, named, introduced (through Ellanhurst Gardens), and registered by Dr Lansing W Bulgin, Sherwood, OR. Flowers 14/truss, widely funnel-campanulate, 1⅞" across x 1" long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; strong purplish red (54A) buds open pale purplish pink (56D) with touches of deep purplish pink (55A) at tips of lobes; outside deep purplish pink (55A) at margins, graduating to white base; with age, corolla becomes moderate to light purplish pink (62B,C). Dome truss, 5" wide x 4" high. Leaves held 3 years, 4" x 1", elliptic to slightly narrowly obovate, slightly convex, acute, cuneate; glabrous above, with pale yellow green (157A) felt-like coating below, aging to dark grayish yellow (199D). Spreading, dense growth habit, free-flowering, plant 2' high x 2⅔' wide in 8 years from seed. Blooms mid May. Plant and bud hardy to at least 10°F.

'ANITA GEHNRICH':  Elepidote. ('The Hon. Jean Marie de Montague' x yakushimanum ). Cross (1977), raised, named, introduced, and registered by Philip Waldman, Roslyn Nursery, Dix Hills, NY. Flowers 14/truss, openly funnel-shaped, 3" across x 3" long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; strong red (50A) buds open deep pink (52B), fading pale purplish pink (56D) in throat, with strong red (50A) dorsal spotting. No calyx. Dome truss, 8" wide x 7" high. Leaves held 3 years, 5" x 1", elliptic, flat, acute, rounded, glossy above, with thinly plastered brown indumentum below. Spreading, dense growth habit, free-flowering, plant 2' high x 4' wide in 12 years from seed. Blooms mid May. Plant and bud hardy to at least -5°F.

'APRIL DAWN':  Lepidote. (white-flowered minus Carolinianum group x white-flowered dauricum ). Cross (1968), raised, named, introduced (through Gem Gardens), and registered by Gustav A L Mehlquist, Storrs, CT. Flowers widely funnel-shaped, single, slightly fragrant, 1" to 2" across x c " long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; light pink (49C). Calyx negligible. Leaves held 2-3 years, 2" to 4" x " to 1⅛", elliptic, flat, acute/apiculate, cuneate, with scaly indumentum; mahogany color in autumn. Upright, spreading habit, free-flowering, plant 3' to 4' high x 2' to 2' wide in 10 years from seed. Blooms in April. Plant hardy to at least -30°F; buds, -25°F.

'APRIL GEM':  Lepidote. (([white-flowered minus Carolinianum group x mucronulatum 'Cornell Pink'] x [white-flowered dauricum x dauricum ]) x white-flowered selection from (white-flowered dauricum x dauricum )). Cross (1974), raised, named, introduced (through Gem Gardens), and registered by Gustav A L Mehlquist, Storrs, CT. Flowers widely funnel-shaped, double (0-3 stamens), slightly fragrant, 1" to 2" across x c " long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; pure white. Calyx negligible. Leaves held 2-3 years, 2" to 4" x " to 1⅛", elliptic, acute/apiculate, cuneate, with scaly indumentum. Broadly upright habit, free-flowering, plant 2' to 3' high x 1⅝' to 2' wide in 10 years from seed. Blooms in April. Plant hardy to at least -30°F; buds, -25°F.

'APRIL REIGN':  Lepidote. [(white-flowered minus Carolinianum group x mucronulatum ' Cornell Pink') x (white-flowered dauricum x dauricum )]. Cross (1974), raised, named, introduced (through Gem Gardens), and registered by Gustav A L Mehlquist, Storrs, CT. Flowers widely funnel-shaped, double (1-3 stamens), slightly fragrant, 1" to 2" across x c 3/4" long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; pink, with lighter center. Calyx negligible. Leaves held 2-3 years, 2" to 4" x " to 1⅛", elliptic, acute/apiculate, cuneate, with scaly indumentum. Cross (1972), raised, named, introduced (through Gem Gardens), and registered by Gustav A L Mehlquist, Storrs, CT. Flowers widely funnel-shaped, double (0-3 stamens), slightly fragrant, 1" to 2" across x c " long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; vivid red (46B,C). Calyx negligible. Leaves held 2-3 years, 2" to 4" x " to 1⅛", elliptic, flat, acute/apiculate, cuneate, with scaly indumentum; reddish bronze in autumn. Cross (1972), raised, named, introduced (through Gem Gardens), and registered by Gustav A L Mehlquist, Storrs, CT. Flowers widely funnel-shaped, semi-double (3-5 stamens), slightly fragrant, 1" to 2" across x c " long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; pure white. Calyx negligible. Leaves held 2-3 years, 2" to 4" x " to 1⅛", elliptic, flat, acute/apiculate, cuneate, with scaly indumentum; bright yellow in autumn. 'ARCTIC GLOW':  Lepidote. (white-flowered minus Carolinianum group x dauricum 'Arctic Pearl'). Cross (1970), raised, named, introduced, and registered by G David Lewis, Colts Neck, NJ. Flowers openly funnel-shaped, 1" across x ⅞" long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; light purple (75A) buds open light purple (75B) fading to white in center, with faint light purple (75B) dorsal spotting. No calyx. Ball truss, 2" wide x 2" high, consisting of 2-3 buds/terminal with 3 flowers/bud. Leaves held 1 years, 2" x 1⅛", elliptic, acute, cuneate, scaly above and below. Dense growth habit, free-flowering, plant 5' high x 5' wide in 15 years from seed. Blooms late April. Plant and bud hardy to at least -15°F.

'ARNESON GEM':  Deciduous azalea. [('C.B. van Nes' x 'Koster's Brilliant Red') x unknown]. Cross (1975), raised, named, introduced (through Arneson Nursery), and registered by Ivan and Robertha Arneson, Canby, OR. Flowers 10-15/truss, slightly fragrant, widely funnel-shaped, 3" across x 2" long, 5 smooth-edged lobes; vivid yellow (16A) in throat, shading to strong reddish orange (34C) at margins; outside strong red (41B); buds strong red (41B) with light yellow (10B) streaks towards the base. Calyx ⅜", light green. Ball truss, 6" across x 4" high. Leaves 2" to 3" x 1" to 1", elliptic, flat, apiculate, cuneate; slightly wrinkled above, slightly hairy below. Upright and spreading habit, very floriferous, 3' high x 4' wide in 12 years from seed. Blooms early to mid May. Plant and bud hardy to at least -15°F. Received award (1988) at Portland Chapter, ARS show for Best New Azalea.

'ART CHILDERS':  Elepidote. {(Warm Spring' x 'Yellow Creek') x ['Crest' x ('CIS' x 'Lem's Goal')]}. Cross (c 1975) and raised by Arthur Childers; named and registered by Maxine Childers, Vida, OR; introduced by Bovees Nursery, Portland, OR. Flowers 14-16/ truss, moderately fragrant, heavy substance, openly funnel-shaped to flat saucer-shaped, with petals slightly re-curved; 4" across x 1" long, with 7 wavy-edged lobes; buds moderate yellow (162A,B) with tint of moderate reddish orange (179C), opening light yellow (10C) shading to light yellow (10B) in throat, with very faint green spotting. Calyx ⅛" to ⅜", yellow green. Ball truss, 9" wide x 7" high. Leaves 4" x 2⅛", oblong/elliptic, apiculate, cuneate, glabrous. Free-flowering, plant 6' high x 4' wide in c 10 years from seed. Blooms late May/early June. Hardy to at least 0°F.

'AUDREY DETANE':  Elepidote. ('Vulcan' x 'Azor'). Cross (1963), raised, named, introduced, and registered by Sigrid Laxdall, Bellingham, WA. Flowers 8/truss, openly funnel-shaped, 3" across x 2" long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; deep pink (51C) buds open deep pink (52B) with strong red (53C) throat; outside has darker pink stripes. Calyx ⅛". Ball truss, 6" wide x 6" high. Leaves held 2 years, 7⅜" x 2", elliptic, flat, acute, rounded, hairless. Upright, free-flowering, 9' high x 6' wide in 25 years from seed. Blooms late June/early July. Plant hardy to at least 0°F; buds, 0°F to 5°F.

'AURIGA':  Elepidote. ['Catawbiense Album' x ( wardii x yakushimanum )]. Cross (1972), raised, named, introduced, and registered by Dr J Brueckner, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Flowers 10-13/truss, openly campanulate, 2⅜" across x 1" long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; pale greenish yellow (1D) deepening to brilliant yellow green (154B,C) towards center. Calyx 1/16", green. Lax dome truss, 6" wide x 4" high. Leaves held 2 years, 4" to 5" x 2" to 2", elliptic, flat, apiculate, rounded, hairless. Spreading, moderately floriferous; plant 4' high x 3⅓' wide in 15 years from seed. Blooms mid June. Plant hardy to at least -25°F; buds, -18°F.

'AZURAY':  Lepidote. (unnamed augustinii hybrid, ex Gable? x dauricum Sempervirens group). Cross (1975), raised, named, introduced, and registered by Dr J Brueckner, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Flowers 3-4/truss, heavy substance, widely funnel-shaped, 2" across x " long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; brilliant to light violet (92A,B,C). Calyx ⅛", green. Lax truss, 3" wide x 2" high. Leaves held 1 years, 1" to 2" x " to 1", elliptic, convex, scaly above and below. Upright, open growth habit, free-flowering, plant 6' high x 3' wide in 13 years from seed. Blooms early to mid May. Plant hardy to at least -30°F; buds, -15°F.

'BAMBINO':  Elepidote. [('Britannia' x yakushimanum ) x 'Lem's Cameo']. Cross (c 1970), raised, named, introduced, and registered by E C Brockenbrough, Bellevue, WA. Flowers 12/truss, moderately fragrant, moderately heavy substance, openly funnel-shaped, 3⅛" across x 2" long, with 6 wavy-edged lobes; light yellowish pink (38C) with red flare on dorsal lobe. Calyx 1⅝", light yellowish pink (38C) with red spotting on dorsal lobe. Ball truss, 5⅞" wide x 5⅞" high. Leaves held 2-3 years, 4" x 2", elliptic, apiculate, rounded, glabrous. Broad outline, well-branched, free-flowering, plant 4' high x 6' wide in 10 years from cutting. Blooms early May. Hardy to at least 0°F.

'BANANA BOAT':  Lepidote. ( keiskei , dwarf selection x dauricum 'Arctic Pearl'). Cross (1971), raised, named, introduced, and registered by G David Lewis, Colts Neck, NJ. Flowers 3-5/truss, moderately fragrant, openly funnel-shaped, 1" across x " long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; light yellow green (145B) buds open pale greenish yellow (1D) with strong yellow green (144C) dorsal spotting; pale orange yellow (23D) anthers. No calyx. Flat truss, 2" wide x 1" high. Leaves held 1 years, 2⅝" x ⅞", elliptic, convex, acute, cuneate, scaly above and below. Spreading, dense growth habit, plant 3' high x 4' wide in 15 years from seed. Blooms mid April. Plant hardy to at least -15°F; buds, -10°F.

'BARBARA COOK':  Elepidote. ('Mary Belle' x 'Goldsworth Yellow'). Cross (1976) by J Judson Brooks, Sewickley, PA; ARS Seed Exchange lot 77-470; raised, named, introduced, and registered by Pat (Mrs James R) Walton, Upper Saddle River, NJ. Flowers 6/truss, openly funnel-shaped, 3" to 4" across x 1" long, with 7 wavy/ frilly-edged lobes; strong red (51A) buds open moderate purplish pink (54D) which ages to pale yellow (20D) with deep purplish red (59B) rays deep in the throat. No calyx. Flat truss, 6" wide x 4" high. Leaves held 2 years, 5" x 2", elliptic, flat, acute, cuneate, hairless. Upright, open growth habit, free-flowering, plant 3' high x 3' wide in 10 years from seed. Blooms mid May. Plant and bud hardy to at least -12°F.

'BEA'S GLORY':  Elepidote. {[('Naomi' x decorum ) x orbiculare ] x [( wardii x dichroanthum ) x fortunei ]}. Cross (1974) by Robert Emmerich, Huntington, NY; raised by Richard Brooks, Concord, MA; named, introduced, and registered by Bea Mac-Donald, Sandwich, MA. Flowers 12/truss, moderately fragrant, heavy substance, widely funnel-shaped; 3" across x 2" long, with 5-7 wavy-edged lobes; pale yellow(158A) buds open pale yellow green (155A), shading to light greenish yellow (4B) in throat, with two small deep red (185A) dorsal rays. Calyx 1/16". Flat truss, 7" wide x 6" high. Leaves 3" to 5" x 1" to 2⅜", elliptic, mucronate, cordate, with wavy margins; retained 3 years. Spreading, dense growth habit, free-flowering, plant 3' high x 5' wide in 12 years from seed. Blooms early May. Plant hardy to at least -15°F; buds, 0°F.

'BEN BRIGGS':  Elepidote. ('Bow Bells' x 'Loderi King George'). Cross (1976) by Ben Briggs, Shelton, WA; raised, named, introduced, and registered by Walter Elliott, Shelton, WA. Flowers 5/truss, tubular funnel-shaped, 3" across x 2" long, with 6 wavy-edged lobes; white with a slightly pink cast, fading soon to a whiter color than greenish white (157D). No calyx. Lax truss, 5" wide x 3" high. Leaves held 2 years, 2" x 1", elliptic, concave, mucronate, cordate, glossy above, hairless above and below. Spreading habit, free-flowering, plant 3' high x 6' wide in 10 years from seed. Blooms in April. Plant hardy to at least 0°F; buds, 10°F.

'BIXBY':  Evergreen azalea. [('Vuyk's Rosyred' or Vuyk's Scarlet' x yedoense var. poukhanense ) x unknown]. Cross (year unknown) by Edmund V Mezitt, Hopkinton, MA; raised, named, introduced and registered by Weston Nurseries, Inc, Hopkinton, MA. Flowers 3/truss, openly funnel-shaped, single, 1" across x " long, 5 wavy-edged lobes; strong red (53D). Calyx ⅛", light green. Flattened dome truss, 2" across x " high. Leaves held 2 years, 1" x ", obovate, concave, mucronate, cuneate, bullate, hairy above and below. Dense growth habit, very floriferous, plant 1' high x 1' wide in 5 years from cutting. Blooms late May to early June. Plant and bud hardy to at least -20°F.

'BOLD ADVENTURE':  Elepidote. ('Ruby Bowman' x 'Skipper'). Cross(1981), raised, named, introduced (through Ellanhurst Gardens), and registered by Dr Lansing W Bulgin, Sherwood, OR. 'LEON'S SPORT':  Evergreen azalea. (Sport from 'Leon's Red'). Discovered (c 1973), raised, named, introduced and registered by Leon Yavorsky, Freehold, NJ. Flowers 3-4/truss, widely funnel-shaped, hose-in-hose, 1" across x 1" long, 5-6 smooth-edged lobes; color is variable: deep red buds (53A) open strong red (53C,D), vivid red (52A), and deep pink (52B). Calyx as corolla. Flat truss, 3" across x 1" high. Leaves ⅞" x ", elliptic, convex, mucronate, cuneate, glossy above, hairy above and below. Cross (1969), raised, introduced, and registered by Dr J Brueckner, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; named by Edmund L de Rothschild, Exbury, Southampton, England. Flowers 2-6/truss, funnel-shaped, 2" across x 1" long, with 5 smooth-edged lobes; very dark red (almost black) buds open strong red (46A). Calyx 1/16", reddish green. Lax truss, 4" wide x 2" high. Flowers 12/truss, flat saucer-shaped, 1⅜" across x " long, with 6 frilly-edged lobes; moderate purplish pink (186D), edged very pale purple (73D), with very pale purple (69D) throat and deep purplish red (71A) dorsal blotch. Flowers 10-15/truss, openly funnel-shaped, 1" across x 1" long, with 5 frilly-edged lobes; strong reddish purple (72C) with yellowish brown eye. Calyx ⅛", light brown. Ball truss, 2" wide x 2" high. 'VOSSBERG'S BUFF:  Elepidote. (Parentage unknown). Cross (c1963) by either Donald Hardgrove, Merrick, NY or Paul Vossberg, Westbury, NY; raised c 3-5 years by P Vossberg, then by Edward T Connors; named, introduced, and registered by E T Connors, Jackson, NJ. Flowers 12-14/ truss, moderately fragrant, heavy substance, widely funnel-shaped, 3" across x 2" long, with 7 smooth-edged to slightly wavy-edged lobes; light yellow green (2C) deep in throat, shading rapidly to pale orange yellow (19D); with sparse strong red (45D) spotting, aging to strong orange yellow(22A), on 1 or 2 upper lobes; dark red pistil; outside pale orange yellow (19D) with some light yellowish pink (19B) longitudinal markings. Buds are vivid red (45C) with pale orange yellow (19D) streaks down the center of each lobe. Calyx minute, bright green. Ball truss, 5" wide x 4" high. Flowers widely funnel-shaped with slightly reflexed dorsal lobe, 1⅛" across x " long, with 5 wavy-edged lobes; greenish yellow buds open creamy white. Calyx negligible. Dome truss, 1" to 2⅜" wide x 1⅛" high, consisting of 1-2 buds/ terminal with 4-10 flowers/bud. Flowers long tubular funnel-shaped, very fragrant, 2" to 3" across x 2" to 3" long, with 6 wavy-edged lobes; strong red to deep pink (50A,B).
