Management Internship available in Executive Vice President's Office
Spectrum Volume 18 Issue 15 - December 7, 1995
Executive Vice President Minnis Ridenour has announced the continuation of the Management Internship, a career development opportunity for current university employees. This position assists in supporting the operations of the Executive Vice President's Office and has the opportunity to work closely with the central financial and administrative functions of the university that report to the executive vice president. The intern also works with the academic administration and areas reporting to the president, providing a broad exposure to all facets of university administration.
The position requires excellent interpersonal and writing skills, as well as strong analytical skills. A minimum of a bachelor's degree is preferred, as is previous administrative experience and a good understanding of university operations, policies, and procedures. Candidates must have been employed by the university or one of the related corporations for at least three years in a grade-11 or higher position or in an administrative or professional faculty position. The internship is a 12-month appointment, with an option for a second year renewal upon successful completion of the first year. The successful candidate retains their current position in the university with no increase in salary for the appointment. Hire-behind assistance is provided to the candidate's home department. Salary adjustments will occur with the regular schedule of merit adjustments for other university employees. At the end of the internship, the intern will return to his or her previous position unless he or she successfully competes for another position in the university.
Employees who are interested in the internship are encouraged to first talk with their supervisors regarding their interests, the program's career-development potential for the employee, and the supervisor's support of the candidacy. Supervisors and department heads are strongly encouraged to nominate employees, especially women and minority members, whose career development would benefit from this type of program. A letter of nomination should be accompanied by the applicant's resume and a letter of application addressing career objectives. Materials should be sent to Minnis Ridenour, 210 Burruss Hall, 0148, no later than Jan. 5, 1996.
