Spectrum Volume 18 Issue 10 - October 26, 1995

Economic developers wanting to learn how to help businesses in their communities initiate or expand sales abroad can get the information they need at the Advanced Institute for Economic Development, "Referring Businesses to Key Programs and Services for International Trade," on November 8 at the Virginia Port Authority, located in Norfolk's World Trade Center.

Co-sponsored by Virginia Tech's Public Service Programs and the Virginia Department of Economic Development (DED), the institute will feature presentations on programs and services of the Virginia Port Authority, programs and services for agricultural exports, export successes of the Virginia Port Authority, financing exports, and marketing programs for product and service exports.

Speakers will include Michael Jones, manager of mid-Atlantic regional marketing for the Port Authority; Robert Rich, international marketing director for the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; John Covaney, senior managing director of marketing services for the Port Authority; Anna Mackley Cobb, financial programs manager for DED's Virginia Small Business Financing Authority; and Judy McCain, international marketing manager for DED's Division of International Trade and Investment Development.

David G. Dickson, director of existing industry development for DED, will provide an overview. J. Douglas McAlister, executive director of Tech's Public Service Programs, will preside at the afternoon session, while Joe Adams, economic development specialist in Public Service Programs, will give a wrap-up.

The institute begins with registration at 9:30 a.m. and adjourns at 3:20 p.m.

The fee for the Advanced Institute for Economic Development is $50, which includes lunch and two refreshment breaks. Enrollment is limited.
