INSTRUCTIONAL

VIRGINIA COOPERATIVE EXTENSION. Extension Agent, ANR (Horticulture). Position is in the City of Chesapeake Position FA 863. Professional faculty, lecturer rank, non-tenure track position, available immediately. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. 100-percent locally funded; annual renewal of position contingent upon continued funding. Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating Extension educational programs primarily in the areas of commercial and home horticulture. Make recommendations for pest management, plant production, marketing, and other commercial and home horticulture concerns. Work closely with the Master Gardener program, Gypsy Moth Suppression Program, and others deemed appropriate. Function as a team member and support the total Extension educational effort as determined by the plan-of-work, unit and district staff, and Chesapeake Extension Leadership Council. Develop and maintain a close relationship with agri-business and other related agencies. Work cooperatively with City of Chesapeake Extension staff as a team member in achieving balanced Extension programs and implementing the Virginia Cooperative Extension Civil Rights Compliance Program. Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, or related area required. Master's degree preferred. If hired with BS and employment continues, must obtain master's within six years. Experience in planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational programs in appropriate discipline; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work with people and to recruit, train, manage volunteers. Computer/computer software knowledge desired. DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES AND PATHOBIOLOGY. Assistant Professor. Calendar-year, tenure-track position. Available Jan. 1, 1997. The appointee will share in the teaching of parasitology to veterinary and graduate students, contribute to clinical diagnostic parasitology and Extension work, and develop an area of special research emphasis in collaboration with others in the department. DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL AND POULTRY SCIENCES. Extension Beef Cattle Specialist. This is a tenure-track, 12-month position at the assistant or associate professor rank with a primary Extension appointment and some research responsibilities. The successful candidate will develop a strong Extension and applied-research program in commercial cow-calf production with emphasis on forage utilization and grazing management. Specific areas of responsibility will include: (1) Develop and deliver collaborative educational programs in commercial cow-calf production; (2) Conduct a research program that enhances forage utilization and cow-calf production; (3) Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary Extension beef-cattle team; and (4) Establish a productive working relationship with the beef-cattle industry and related organizations. Qualifications: A Ph.D. in ruminant nutrition or closely related area is required. Preference will be given to individuals with practical experience in cow-calf production, forage management, and utilization. Candidates must possess strong speaking, writing, computing, and leadership skills to work effectively with Extension agents, beef-cattle organizations, and cow-calf producers. The successful candidate will develop a vigorous Extension and applied research program using a systems approach (from breeder flocks through incubation, management and nutrition, product quality, and environmental influences) on the performance and efficiency of turkey production. The person will establish and maintain a close and productive working relationship with the poultry industry and related organizations. Implementation of the program will also require cooperation with faculty in other areas. Qualifications: A Ph.D. in poultry science or a closely related area is required. Preference will be given to individuals with strong experience with turkeys. The individual must be an effective communicator and educator with leadership ability to work cooperatively with the poultry industry and related organizations. NON-INSTRUCTIONAL

SPONSORED PROGRAMS. Associate Director. The associate director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office of Sponsored Programs. These duties include the responsibility for administration and negotiation of a full range of contracts and grants with federal agencies, as well as sponsors in both the public and private sectors. This position will have supervisory responsibility for a team-oriented organization and responsibility for giving guidance and direction in all aspects of sponsored program administration. Ideal candidates will have background in research administration in a university or within an agency funding academic research; familiarity with state and federal regulations and compliance issues related to university research; strong managerial, communication, and organizational skills; master's degree or CPA certification. Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree, strong computer skills and background in research administration. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
