CONFERENCE

EPOS AND LOGOS :
ANCIENT LITERATURE AND ITS ORAL CONTEXT

6-9 JULY 1998
VICTORIA UNIVERSITY OF WELLINGTON,
NEW ZEALAND.

This is the third international conference on the theme of orality and literacy in the ancient world, following on from the stimulating conferences in Hobart (1994) and Durban (1996).

In the tradition of its predecessors, the conference embraces all aspects of orality and literacy in the ancient Greek and Roman world (Homeric and later poetic composition, performance, the influence of oral culture on the visual arts, drama, historiography, law, philosophy, oratory), and, to enrich the debate, welcomes contributions on oral traditions in other cultures and periods.
