QBARS - v12n1 New Chapter Added to American Rhododendron Society
New Chapter Added to A.R.S.
To American Rhododendron Society Members:
On November 11, 1957, at the Morris Arboretum, Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Pa., a meeting was held by members and other interested persons, to form a local chapter of the American Rhododendron Society. Seventeen persons were present.
In the Philadelphia area there are many people who have developed their interest in rhododendrons into a fascinating hobby. A need for a local chapter has been apparent for some time. It was through the efforts of Mrs. W. A. Kelius of Levittown, Pa., that a meeting was held on the above date. Mr. Fogg, director of the Morris Arboretum, kindly offered the use of one of their rooms in the Administration Building for our meeting place.
The membership requirements for the formation of a local Chapter was fulfilled by twelve petitioners. To the area members of the American Rhododendron Society the benefits of a local chapter are obvious, as here at the meetings most valuable and educational information will be presented by both amateur and professional growers alike; there is little reason to elaborate on this point in detail here.
The Pro Tem committee extend to all unaffiliated members to become associated with the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society. The next meeting will be held at the Morris Arboretum, 9414 Meadowbrook Ave., Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Penna., at 8 p.m., Thursday, January 16, 1958, to request acceptance as a chapter, and to elect officers. Meetings will be held every 3rd Thursday during the months of February, March, April, May, September, October, and November.
We would like to have you as a Charter Member, and if you would like to be affiliated with the Philadelphia Chapter, you may send your check for the 1958 dues, made out to the American Rhododendron Society, to Mrs. W. A. Kelius, Levittown, Pa., and it will be forwarded to the National Secretary.
Sincerely yours,
Charles Herbert
