Bonsai

Some of the recent shows of the Seattle Chapter have included a group of very attractive rhododendrons and azaleas developed in Bonsai form. At a later date, either in the Bulletin or the book, we hope to have a story about this with a number of illustrations.  In the meanwhile our members in the Northwest who are interested in this field might like to know about a Bonsai demonstration and exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum, June 11 through 14. This will be open 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; Noon to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday; Thursday evening 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. Mr. Yuji Yoshimura, one of the best known authorities, will lecture on Thursday evening and Friday and Saturday afternoons. He will discuss the culture, art, history and general care with slide illustrations on Tuesday evening. Friday at 1:30 he will lecture and demonstrate the creation of a Bonsai. Saturday he will demonstrate the creation of a rock planting and a group planting. Those who have worked in this field indicate that certain rhododendron species and varieties are very suitable for Bonsai. There will be a small admission charge to the exhibit and lectures.
