A great many people contributed substantially to the success of the various activities in connection with the Annual Meeting in May. Those who opened their homes and their gardens for the benefit of visitors deserve special commendation.
On Friday evening, May 15 the entire group was invited to the home of Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Simons Jr. at Woodway Park, where Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains were in full view to be enjoyed by all who cared to look. After a social hour a delicious buffet dinner was served to some 150 members and guests. Later all gathered in the spacious living room to hear Mr. E. H. M. Cox give the talk printed in this Bulletin.
On Sunday the visitors were divided into two groups, one going first to the garden of Mrs. Henry Isaacson, located on a steep slope, and landscaped to take full advantage of that fact. There was a broad path of lawn laid out with "switchbacks" so that one could move up or down the slope without encountering steep walking, and with pools, fountains and vistas appearing to surprise and delight the visitor.
The other group went first to the garden of Mrs. Pendleton Miller. This was a garden with a magnificent view also but especially noteworthy for its many rare plants, especially ground covers.
Mrs. Isaacson and Mrs. Miller, not only opened their gardens but each served a much enjoyed buffet luncheon to the group which was at her home at noon.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Graham entertained the group in their garden during the afternoon. The University of Washington Arboretum also was host to many, this Sunday afternoon as well as at other times during the Conference.
Our sincere thanks to these generous people.
