QBARS - v19n1 Chapter Membership Contest

Chapter Membership Contest
Bob Comerford, Membership Chairman
Marion, Oregon

Rules:

First prize will be Rhododendrons to the value of $100.00 shipped prepaid to the winning chapter.

Contest begins January 1, 1965 and closes June 1, 1965.

Contest based on the per cent of Chapter membership increase. Transfers from one chapter to another will not be counted.

Non-chapter members joining a chapter will not be counted.

All new chapter members' names and addresses must be postmarked not later than June 1, 1965, addressed to Dr. Clarke, the Executive Secretary, to be officially qualified and counted.

All new members for 1965 already registered may be counted in the contest.

Results will be published in the July Bulletin.

Plants will be shipped September or October as desired.

Rhododendron varieties will not be specified until we see the hardiness zone in which they must grow depending on the winning chapter.

The plants may be used in the Chapter Test Garden, for a plant auction to raise money for the chapter, or for any other ideas the chapter may have for their use.

Suggestions to Chapters for getting new members:

Awarding the chapter member who gets the most new members his choice of any plant from the group shipped by the A.R.S. Board of Directors, constituting the $100 first prize award to the winning chapter.

Setting up a membership booth at your spring Rhododendron Show where you have so many visitors that are not members. You might have on display past A.R.S. Bulletins and our book, "Rhododendrons for Your Garden."

Placing signs and information at your local Garden Centers and Nurseries.

This contest was conceived with the idea of creating inter-chapter spirit and interest in obtaining new members. Although we are growing steadily we are at a point of high per member cost in operating the Society. A rapid rise over this zone in membership is highly desirable to keep a sound and vigorous National Society.
