QBARS - v20n4 The 1967 Annual Meeting
The 1967 Annual Meeting
While we are still talking about the fine convention in Tacoma, and publishing some of the papers presented there, the Southeastern Chapter is hard at work making plans for the 1967 Annual Meeting. The date is set for May 7, 8 and 9 and the place Asheville, North Carolina.
Convention headquarters will be the Grove Park Inn "Mountain-High above Asheville" promising "Alpine Luxury in the Great Smoky Mountains." This is an American plan Inn and the show, meetings and most of the meals will be here. The Inn brochure indicates ample meeting, dining and recreation facilities.
One of the features, of course, will be the fabulous Biltmore Estate. The present owners, Vanderbilt heirs, George and William Cecil, are members of the Southeastern Chapter. This estate has the most complete collection of native azaleas in the country many of which should be in bloom at the time of the meeting. The azaleas should also be in bloom along the Blue Ridge Parkway, said to be the most beautiful drive in the country.
A number of other private estates will be visited. One, which is owned by a descendant of C. O. Dexter, will have a number of the Dexter Hybrids in bloom, some considered to be very fine. Mr. W. II. Thorne, President of the Southeastern Chapter, promises that the weather will be delightful, or at least he says that it should be, warm days and cool nights and no mosquitoes.
It looks as if all that is needed to make this a wonderful meeting is a good representation from all parts of the country.
