Civic Center rebirth started fifteen years ago through local interest, and is climaxed by the City Hall complex, completed two years ago. Stafford, Morin & Longwood, Architects, won a state wide competition for the design contract, and proceeded with the concept of a square doughnut around a central structure combining council and meeting hall. This is where our first program takes place. The promenade surrounding the meeting hall will serve as display area for the local Rhododendron show on May 12. The entire complex housing fire, police and administrative functions is raised a half level above ground level, allowing space for daylight parking of 250 cars.
The Civic Center is a vital force in improving the image of Eugene and reflects the concern of local people to provide a good environment for residents and visitors.
