QBARS - v32n1 Greenhouse Gardening
Greenhouse Gardening
Reprinted from the Seattle Chapter Newsletter
A number of members of Study Club over the years have practiced taking their primary collection of rhododendron cuttings for propagation mostly during the time period between Christmas and the middle of January. I myself have also done so in the past. The results are most interesting. My own observation was that if we had had an adequate fall chilling period previous to taking the cuttings, that a remarkable number of these cuttings root over cable heat and either in a sweat box or mist condition. Often the dwarfest and lower growing sorts would root 70-80% of the time, and the rooting would be more difficult the larger the diameter of the wood. Why don't you try a few this year in your greenhouse and see what results you have?
